San Francisco is the home of Dropbox’s 70.000 sq. ft headquarters, a place in which their entire team can find all imaginable conditions to feel energized to develop their work, with a perfect balance that combines the comfort of a variety of modern chairs and the state of the art functionality required for a tech company of such.
The design of the whole space is the result of a direct collaboration between Dropbox’s Glara Ahn and Claire Pederson with the New York based AvroKo design firm and also local Bay Area designers of Rapt Studio.
The idea behind this project was to reflect the collaborative nature of Dropbox’s own mission as well as providing employees with ample spaces, energized rooms full of natural light sources and the “at home” feeling offered by countless upholstered chairs that could easily pass as your own bedroom chairs.
Dropbox had their staff’s needs really as the main priority for their headquarter’s design, asking them how they liked to work, enhancing each area with a different “mood” to stimulate their senses and making sure they gave their people conditions to work anywhere at any time.
As Glara Ahn, the head of design team, states: “Just like a city plaza with roads that eventually lead to your home, the new office is designed to enable three types of human interaction: public, small groups, and completely private at the individual level”.
Unique designer chairs and a combination of different shapes makes the headquarters of Dropbox part company from the traditional idea of an office space. Wouldn’t you pleasantly include those velvet armchairs at your own place?
The light, the greenery, the quirky tables, the modern chairs, the different textures and designs, put everything together and the result is this beautiful, lounge-like, room.
Light and simplicity never go wrong, and the details of the tables and chairs give it that bit of design quality that makes you understand you are not working in an ordinary place.

The customized white sofa gives the presentation room a mystical feeling.
Dropbox spared no expense in gifting their spaces with quality pieces in terms of materials and design. Designer chairs, leather sofas, velvet chairs, peculiar lamps, you name it. They have it!
The challenge was indeed accepted and accomplished by the design team, presenting Dropbox’s employees with a brilliant mix of convenience and style, with spaces that transmit relaxation whilst reinforcing a “can do” attitude within them.
Each area tells a different story, as this goofy music-themed room proves. A combination of music-related objects, different colours and patters and different chair designs doesn’t really fit the idea we have of a tech company’s office. However, surely their workers won’t mind hanging out in here, playing some songs in the guitar or getting cozy in that fluffy white chair.
Do you see yourself working in such an inspired office? Well, just follow the suggestion in the title and go for it. A place in which you can develop your career and satisfy your design loving inspiration at the same time.
