Marc van der Voorn is a Dutch designer based in Utrecht, who works mainly in the field of product design. His methods are practical, hands-on and collaborative; Marc van der Voorn’s self-initiated projects are a way for him to experiment with materials and challenge the production processes, which frequently find their way into commercial projects.
Marc van der Voorn’s experience in design, development and practical know-how make him a dedicated partner; his aim is to develop consumer products in collaboration with manufacturers and brands. For the designer, getting to know the client is crucial to the design process – an intensive exchange of knowledge is a must to create a remarkable product that stands out.
Together with Brafour, Marc van der Voorn launched the Wire family: a dining chair and a counter stool.
The surprise is one of the key elements that make people stop, turn their head and have a closer look. The legs of the Hole chair have this effect on people. The faceted legs pierce through the seat of the chair, melting the frame and seat together and leaving a mark. The legs are made of Europian oak, known for its strength and durability. A well-built chair will last a lifetime, that is our goal. 100% wool from Denmark is used for the upholstery, giving the chair a warm and rich finish.
The Epic chair is all about perseverance. Which resulted in the distinctive back of the Epic chair. It literally splits the frame in two. A team of dedicated craftsmen at ZET furniture joined it sturdy back together. For Marc van der Voorn pushing the boundaries is what makes the process of designing fascinating and rewarding. A team effort is needed to create a remarkable product that stands out. The Epic family is the result of that quest. The collection comes in oak and can be partly upholstered (seat) or painted in colour, offering a world of possibilities.
Many of Marc van der Voorn‘s designs have found their way to customers around the world, and have been published in international magazines. As a co-editor, he contributes to several blogs and magazines, being also a guest at Art school lectures.
