Hee Welling Studio was founded in 2003 by Hee Welling in Copenhagen and since then the studio is known to create objects that are simple and useful, with honest and careful use of materials.
Hee Welling believes that every detail needs to have a purpose and a clean visual expression, thus defining the essence of each project and fiving space for unique designed items, with a unique and strong identity. Nevertheless, everything is designed with respect and connection to the designer’s Scandinavian roots.
Hee Welling attended The University of Art and Design, Helsinki, and has a master degree in furniture design from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. He established his studio in Copenhagen in 2003 and works today in the fields of furniture, interior, lighting and industrial design. The studio collaborates with leading national and international manufacturers and the products have been exhibited at fairs and museums worldwide.
Hee Welling has received the BoBedre Design Award (Denmark), the Good Design Award (USA), scholarship from the Danish Arts Foundation and has been nominated as the Danish designer of the year in 2013 and 2014, by Danish magazines Bolig Magasinet, Costume Living and BoBedre. He is also ranked on Architonic’s list of most popular designers – Top 200 designers 2015.
Hee Welling products have been used in different international interiors, including the Oslo opera house, the Australian parliament, Amazon’s head office, Danish national television, the Astrup Fearnley Museum, Beats by Dre head office and the Danish parliament.
Hee Welling has been the design tutor at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and The Danish Institute for Study abroad. Besides his own studio, the designer is also a partner in the design studio Welling / Ludvik, alongside Icelandic designer Gudmundur Ludvik. The collaboration began in 2010 and since then, the duo has created furniture and industrial design products for several national and international companies.
